One of the talents we support is the young pianist Zhelyo Todorov. His success continues to grow, and this year started excitingly for him with a masterclass in Germany led by the renowned piano duo Aglika Genova and Luben Dimitrov. This is not Zhelyo’s first encounter with them, and with each class, he refines his skills. The advice he receives from both mentors helps him not only master new techniques but also interpret music through his unique perspective.
Recognizing Zhelyo’s exceptional talent and commitment, Luben and Aglika recommended him to Denis Proshayev, a renowned pianist, conductor, and professor at the University of Music in Karlsruhe. Zhelyo shares that what impressed him the most was the incredible passion for work and the desire of the virtuoso to pass on his knowledge to younger generations. In April, the two will meet again to continue their collaboration, and after completing 12th grade, the young talent aspires to continue his studies under Denis Proshayev in Karlsruhe.
Beyond these inspiring encounters with experienced musicians, Zhelyo is also actively performing on stage. He participated as the only piano soloist in a concert at the Varna Opera, where he performed Rachmaninoff’s Second Concerto. This prestigious opportunity was granted to him after he impressed the jury and won first prize at a prestigious music competition in Orbetello, Italy.
At the international competition, Zhelyo faced strong competition, with 30 pianists from around the world participating in his category, all with significant concert experience. Despite the high level of competition, the young talent managed to impress the jury with his 15-minute repertoire and secured first place. During his time in Italy, he also established valuable connections with distinguished musicians, with whom he hopes to maintain contact in the future.
Zhelyo continues to work diligently, and we at the “Mihaleva for Hope” Foundation are proud to be part of his journey and to support his growth as a musician. We believe that many new opportunities lie ahead for him, leading him to the world’s greatest stages.
